Capitol Hosts 6th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament

On Friday, Sept. 27, the Capitol College community gathered at Waverly Woods Golf Club in Marriottsville, Md. for the sixth Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament. This year’s event was one of the most successful in the college’s history, with more than 80 golfers and more than $10,000 raised for student scholarships.

This year’s tournament was won by the foursome of Bob Lentz, Robert Lentz, Mike Radomski and Brad Tingle with a score of 57. Second place went to the foursome of  Paul Chung, Howard Ross, Marty Schaffer and Richard Simon, while the team of Robert Browning, Mark Liberatore, Mike Plass and Junious Wilson finished third.

Winners of the men’s and women’s “longest drive” contest were Vic Gehr and Page Hessler, respectively. The “closest to the pin” contest was won by Rick Simon whose shot landed just 13’ 10” from the hole.

After finishing their rounds, golfers gathered for lunch where Dr. Michael T. Wood, president, thanked everyone for their participation and for their continued support of Capitol College and its scholarship fund. Next, scholarship student Garrett Baseley ‘15 thanked those in attendance for helping provide him with his Capitol College scholarship. He shared his plan for the future and how he will put his degree to work once he graduates.

“My overall goal is to end up graduating a year early, as well as keep my 4.0 GPA, so that after I graduate I can begin a career in the cybersecurity world, and maybe, somewhere down the line start my own business,” Baseley said. “I would like to genuinely thank each and every one of you for making this scholarship possible and awarding me with it.”

Capitol College is thankful to everyone who participated in the tournament, contributed to the scholarship fund and sponsored the tournament. Many Capitol undergraduates are first-generation college students, and scholarships are extremely important to the Capitol community. With more than 80 percent of students receiving some sort of financial aid, the support of each and every benefactor truly impacts Capitol students.
