Why Capitol Tech

Capitol Technology University is part of the job-rich pipeline supplying human capital to America’s most technologically advanced government agencies and their private sector supply chains.

While many college graduates struggle to find meaningful work with their degrees, Capitol Tech provides a launch pad to a better life. It’s because we’re laser-focused on STEM careers and give students the hands-on, real-world experience they need to enter today’s tech job market.

We enable students to use their education to build great careers and take care of themselves and their families.

-Dr. Bradford Sims
President, Capitol Technology University

Lives we’ve launched

Because we’re a small school, we’re able to pour a lot of individual attention into developing the talent and confidence of the students who come here. Once they’re ready, it’s hard to see them go – but go they do – on amazing career trajectories.

Joshua Joseph

Joshua Joseph '19 // Dual major in Cybersecurity + Computer Science

Josh is a senior and recipient of the prestigious SMART Scholarship for Service program, established by the U.S. Department of Defense. He’s currently working as an intern at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) and will continue to work there for two years after graduation. Despite the fact that he’s still in school, he’s already seen the return on his investment: “I’ve had opportunities at Capitol Tech that I wouldn’t have had otherwise. The hands-on experience I’ve gained and connections with friends and faculty I’ve forged will benefit me for years to come.”

Lisa Sedares

Lisa Sedares '13 // Project Engineer @ The Aerospace Corporation

Lisa graduated from Capitol Tech with a dual degree in Astronautical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. She currently works as a Project Engineer for The Aerospace Corporation, representing NASA’s interests. Lisa began her first internship with NASA as a Capitol Tech student and has been working with the organization in various capacities ever since. “Capitol Tech set me on my path. With my Astronautical Engineering degree, I gained a narrow view into aerospace, but a broad view of the different things a spacecraft can do. My education is extremely relevant to the work that I’m doing now.”

Dr. Herman Felder

Dr. Herman Felder '10 // Chief Data Architect @ Information International Associates

Herman received his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from Capitol Technology University. As a thought leader in the field of Data Analytics, he’s built an incredibly successful career for himself. What their employers say

Recruiters love our students, because they’ve got the technical chops and experience to hit the job running.

the Hammers Company

“Capitol Tech students graduate with actual experience in operating orbiting spacecraft. From day one, they are capable to operate, perform anomaly analysis and contribute to mission operations.”

- Stephan R. Hammers
President

compass dx consulting group

“Capitol Tech students are engaged, self-starters who are on fire for cybersecurity. I had the pleasure of mentoring several students during the Cybersecurity Professional Fast Track Summer Program.”

T-Rex company logo

“I found my information security intern at Capitol Tech’s Spring Job Fair. We had him take our technical hiring test – he passed with flying colors, so I hired him immediately.”

- Steve Luczynski
Chief Information Security Officer

General Dynamics Logo

“We have found that Capitol Tech students hit the ground running. They have done assignments centered around the NASA life-cycle so they already know what we often have to teach first year employees. We always look for individuals who work well in a team environment and we have found them in Capitol Tech graduates.”

- Juan Cifuentes
JPSS Deployed Systems Team
DST Integration Lead

Motorola Logo

“I recruit from Capitol Tech for many reasons- Capitol Tech students typically possess better teaming and collaboration skills. Their technical skills also are better as each class has a "hands-on" component to them. Seems that the continual exposure to “hands-on” allows the Capitol Tech students a safe environment to take risks and experience failures.  So Capitol students excel at teamwork, collaboration and risk-taking. Many graduates from other institutions with fewer hands-on opportunities seem to be more risk-averse.”

- Tom Beall
Sr. Manager Presale Engineering

What their instructors say

Most of our faculty have established careers in the Washington-Baltimore tech hub and give our curricula up-to-the-minute relevance. Here’s what they say about preparing students to enter the workforce.

Professor Mabson in the SFOTC lab

“We give our students real world experience that can’t get anywhere else, except on the job.”

- Marcel Mabson
Adjunct Professor of Astronautical Engineering

Professor testing neural technology

“Seeing my students achieve, as they pursue cutting-edge technologies, invent things and contribute to a better world – that is where I find joy.”

- Dr. Garima Bajwa
Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

A professor advising a student

“Students don’t come to Capitol Tech to learn about what I did 8 years ago. We constantly adapt to where industry is going.”

- Dr. Alex “Sandy” Antunes
Associate Professor of Astronautical Engineering
