Flu Guidelines

The flu season is here, and Capitol College is encouraging all students, staff, faculty, and visitors to campus to take the necessary steps to protect their own health and the health of others. To avoid infection with any form of the flu, the Center for Disease Control recommends that individuals take the following precautions:

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, and throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, as germs can spread this way.
  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
  • If at all possible, get vaccinated.

Additionally, as a member of the Capitol College community you have a responsibility to protect the health of the other members of the community. Therefore, if you exhibit fever or un-attributable body aches or un-attributable cough you should stay away from campus. Individuals exhibiting these symptoms who are on campus will be required to leave campus until symptoms have subsided.

College leadership will continue to monitor the nature of the flu here on campus and keep the community informed of any changes to the college’s response to this evolving issue.
