Introducing the Capitol Chargers Overwatch Team

February 7, 2022

Thanks to Capitol Chargers Overwatch Team member and student Bill Roberson for contributing this guest blog about our newly formed university esports team!

The Spring 2022 Semester marked many new beginnings for Capitol Tech. One long awaited kickoff was that of the Capitol Chargers esports program, where the students jumped right into the NACE Starleague Overwatch Season.

In pursuit of a title, the Capitol Chargers fielded a roster of six players to compete in the Overwatch Challenger division of the NACE Starleague. Led by Assistant Director of Esports and Competitive Activities Jack Harrison, the team consists of:

  • Main Tank Bill “Rhex”
  • Off Tank Audrey “SaturnV”
  • Hitscan DPS Andrew “Dior”
  • Flex DPS Jared “Panda”
  • Flex Support Taylor “Feenry”
  • Main Support Darius “SlayerD”

Though the team has little experience as a group, significant experience lies within the team’s players. DPS (player who deals the most damage to enemies) player Panda was formerly ranked as a Grandmaster in the early days of Overwatch, which is the highest rank in the game, and Support (player who holds the team together with varying roles each round) player Feenry has over four hundred hours in the game. Rounding out the experienced players, Rhex is a former Overwatch Contender’s semi-professional coach,

having teams that competed in North America, Pacific, and Korean regions.

Amongst the fresh faces, Tank (team protector role) player SaturnV shows great promise on heroes Orisa and D.Va, stacking up increasingly impressive performances each practice. DPS player Dior has shown great timing with his ultimate usage and well placed abilities on hero Ashe. Finishing the new faces, player SlayerD has adapted to all challenges including a roll swap to Support from his native DPS role to accommodate the team’s current needs and best interests.

Monday, January 31st marked the first official match of the NACE 2022 Season, which also brought a Forfeit Victory to the Capitol Chargers team. The aforementioned players' places on the roster are set, however, there is possibility of some future role swaps to give players the opportunity to try out positions that they do not usually play.

Those who are interested in keeping up with our Capitol Chargers can look forward to an active season with score results here on the university blog and on the official Chargers Instagram account. Future matches will be streamed at the official Capitol Technology University Twitch channel.
