IWCE Expo is coming up…and Capitol will be there!

March 17, 2016

As wireless and communications technology professionals gather in Las Vegas for the annual IWCE Expo, to be held this year from March 21-25, cybersecurity will be on the minds of many participants. The need to understand security issues has never been higher – and Capitol Technology University, a leading provider of cybersecurity education – is helping to build that understanding.

The university has an ongoing partnership with IWCE, through which it delivers expert presentations and seminars to Expo participants. Under the partnership, IWCE members receive a 10% tuition discount on all master's-level courses offered at Capitol (to apply, click here and be sure to choose IWCE in Section 2, question 6).

At this year’s event, Capitol cyber and information security program security chair William Butler will be joined by Capitol vice president for academic affairs William Vic Maconachy, an internationally recognized expert on cybersecurity education, as well as by Capitol professor Dan Ford, chief product officer and chief of staff at Silent Circle.

They’ll not only be providing an overview of cybersecurity, but also delving into specific areas of concern such as power grids and the Internet of Things.

The IWCE’s keynote speaker in 2016, US cyber defense advisor to NATO Curtis Levinson, is a trustee of Capitol, as is Alan Tilles, chairman of the Shulman Rogers Telecommunications Department, who will also be presenting during the event.

According to director of graduate recruitment Xavier A. Richards, Capitol is uniquely positioned to meet a growing need among professionals in the industry.

“Wireless and cybersecurity are interrelated, and becoming more so,” Richards said. “There’s a need in the wireless community for cybersecurity experts who can come in and educate professionals about how to protect devices and networks, how to ensure their products are secure, and how to comply with regulations and best practices.”

“Because of our strong track record in information assurance and cybersecurity education, we’re in a position to provide this kind of guidance,” she said, urging participants to stop by Capitol's booth in the vendor display area during the Expo.

The IWCE is regarded across the industry as the authoritative annual event for communication technology professionals. Each year, it attracts technology buyers from a wide variety of professional sectors, including government/military, law enforcement, public safety, emergency response, the medical profession, transportation, and business enterprise. The event features over 350 exhibitors.

“This is a great opportunity to present the university to an audience of 7,000 people from all over the world,” Maconachy said ahead of the 2014 Expo. “It’s our hope and desire that people and companies will find this of great interest and discover things that we do at Capitol Technology University, including our master’s, doctoral and certificate programs."

Stacey Orlick, Event and Content Director of IWCE, said her organization is “thrilled to partner with Capitol Technology University,” which she described as “the best resource to provide education on cybersecurity” to IWCE participants.
