Capitol Hosts Chesapeake Regional Tech Council Event

Capitol College hosted one of the Chesapeake Regional Tech Council’s Tech Talk events on Thursday, May 2, in the Avrum Gudelsky Memorial Auditorium. Deon Viergutz, director of operations at Lockheed Martin Cyber Solutions, provided the main presentation of the event.

Viergutz discussed the importance of cybersecurity across every industry. While people mostly think of tech fields when they think cybersecurity, cyber threats are prevalent in every industry including banking and health care. He also detailed how the field continues to grow and the strong need for cybersecurity professionals in every industry. Finally, he discussed best practices in cybersecurity and noted some of the strategies Lockheed Martin employs to prevent cyber attacks.

Viergutz serves as the Lockheed Martin director of operations for cyber solutions. This increased responsibility followed selection in 2009 to lead Lockheed Martin’s Analytics and Data Acquisition Division with the Cyber Solutions Line of Business. From 2000 through 2006, Viergutz held various leadership positions in Lockheed Martin to include deputy program director for the US DRIS 2010 Census program, director of engineering and the program manager for the 2001 United Kingdom Census.
