Laurel, MD — Capitol Technology University announced today the expansion of its Bachelor of Science in Aviation Professional Pilot program will include two new Maryland airports beginning Fall 2026.
In addition to the program’s current flight training locations at Fort Meade Executive Airport (Tipton-FME) and Navy Annapolis Flight Center, students will now have access to:
-
Frederick Municipal Airport in Frederick, MD
-
Martin State Airport in Middle River, MD
This expansion enhances geographic accessibility for students, increases scheduling flexibility, and supports continued growth in Capitol Tech’s aviation programs.
Changes in pilot retirement age, a limited pipeline of new pilots, and anticipated long-term growth in air transportation are contributing to a nationwide shortage of commercial pilots. Salaries for pilots and professionals in this field average around $170,000. Capitol Technology University’s aviation programs are intentionally designed to prepare graduates to enter this high-demand workforce quickly, successfully, and now with access to additional training locations.
FAA-Authorized Accelerated Career Pathway
Because of the rigor and quality of its curriculum, Capitol Technology University has been authorized by the FAA to certify qualified graduates for a Restricted Airline Transport Pilot (R-ATP) pathway requiring 1,000 total flight hours, a 500-hour reduction from the standard 1,500-hour requirement. This authorization also allows eligible graduates to take the Restricted-ATP practical flight test at age 21, rather than the standard age of 23.
Graduates who complete all academic and flight requirements receive a formal FAA certifying statement from Capitol Tech, confirming eligibility for the reduced-hour ATP pathway–saving both time and money compared to many traditional flight-training routes.
