Capitol Technology University will host our second annual GreyCon conference on Friday, October 9. As our premier Founder's Week event, the conference will bring together STEM professionals, alumni, and industry leaders to explore emerging technologies and honor our university's 99th anniversary.
This year also marks our 25th anniversary of leadership in cybersecurity education. In 2001, our first cybersecurity program was launched under the guidance of veteran and visionary professor, Dr. David Ward. Since then, Capitol Tech has continued to expand our cybersecurity offerings as one of the university’s most sought-after degree fields.
These programs now span across several undergraduate and graduate degree offerings, including the BS in Information Assurance (now Cybersecurity), as well as the nation’s first Doctor of Science (DSc) in Cybersecurity delivered synchronously online. Since 2003, Capitol Tech has been recognized as an NSA National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (NCAE-CD) and was later selected to lead the NCAE Northeast Regional Hub.
Through longstanding industry partnerships, pioneering hands-on curriculum, a state-of-the-art cyber lab, team competitions, outreach initiatives, and evolving opportunities, Capitol Tech has built strong leadership in cybersecurity education. GreyCon 2026 will commemorate this milestone by bringing together alumni and community thought leaders to share insights from their research and professional careers, while exploring the innovations and challenges shaping an increasingly connected world.
The conference will take place on our campus in Laurel, Maryland, with workshop tracks, panel discussions, academic poster presentations, and a networking mixer. Featured speakers include Alice Smitley of the Dept. of War Cyber Service Academy (DoW CSA), Dr. Joe Billingsley of Military Cyber Professionals Association (MCPA), Dr. Diane Janosek of JANOS, LLC, Dr. Davina Pruitt-Mentle of National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Steve Wallace of Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), Lynn Dohm of Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS), Kishore Bitra of Baltimore City Office of Information & Technology (BCIT), and more.
New for this year, GreyCon will offer a book-signing opportunity with local alumni and tech authors. Lunch and refreshments will also be provided.
As the second annual conference approaches, Capitol Tech's GreyCon serves as an important part of our broader professional outreach, concluding our Founder's Week activities and highlighting both the university’s history and the future of technology innovation.
