Exciting transformations are coming at Capitol Technology University, with construction of a new residence hall scheduled to begin this summer, university administration said on July 17.
“On behalf of President Bradford Sims and the Executive Council, I am pleased to announce that on Friday, July 14, the necessary financing arrangements were completed in order to begin construction on the new student residence hall,” Capitol’s senior vice president for finance and administration and chief operating officer, Jeffrey L. Williams, said in a statement.
“We look forward to this new chapter in our master campus plan, and in being able to offer our students the latest in technologically advanced, safe and comfortable residence hall living facilities,” he said.
The new residential hall will house 220 students, and is expected to open in August 2018, in time for the Fall 2018 semester. The construction process will take an anticipated thirteen months.
Melinda Bunnell-Rhyne, assistant vice president for student engagement and university development, said she is excited to see Capitol expanding. “Capitol is focused on offering great educational value in terms of preparing students for their careers,” she said. “With the campus expansion, we’ll be able to offer that opportunity to more students.”
At the same time, she said, “Capitol is a close-knit, friendly school where students really get to know each other, and that’s not going to change.”
Expanding the residential facilities on campus is part of a broad strategic plan that also includes renovated labs and classroom facilities, enhanced online learning platforms, continued partnerships with industry, federal agencies and other educational institutions, and a higher international profile.
“The global economy of today is technology-driven, and our mandate as a university is to prepare students for success in that kind of economy,” said Dianne O’Neill, vice president for enrollment management and marketing. “We believe schools like Capitol are going to play an increasingly central role in the evolving higher education landscape, and our strategic plan strengthens our capacity to fill that role.”
Based in Laurel, MD, Capitol Technology University offers undergraduate degree programs in astronautical engineering, business administration, computer engineering, computer science, cyber and information security, electrical engineering, electronics engineering technology, management of cyber and information technology, mobile computing and game programming, software engineering, and web development.
At the graduate level, Capitol offers online doctoral programs in cybersecurity and management and decision sciences, as well as master’s programs in business administration, computer science, cyber and information security, electrical engineering, information systems management, and internet engineering.
