Trevor Bateman Student Profile

Trevor Bateman

Mechatronics Engineering Undergraduate Student
Class of 2028

When Trevor Bateman first stepped onto the Capitol Technology University campus, he knew it would be the start of something special. Now an undergraduate sophomore in mechatronics engineering, Trevor recalls arriving full of nervous excitement on that day, ready to meet new people and tour the campus. This new environment signaled a fresh start for him with exciting opportunities he couldn’t find anywhere else.

"I chose Capitol because they offered me the most comprehensive package," he says. "They gave me the best scholarship and offered me a place where they care about me as a student and I wouldn't get lost in a sea of thousands of people. It felt like family when I came to campus the first time."

That close-knit atmosphere was exactly what Trevor was seeking for his college experience. As the son of two nuclear fusion doctors, choosing an excellent STEM university was a top priority for both him and his parents. Trevor’s previous accomplishments earned him a place in the Capitol Scholars Program (CSP) competition, The panel of judges recognized his passion and authenticity, and awarded him a full four-year scholarship.

Today, Trevor is diving deep into the world of engineering. “I have learned a lot about circuits,” he says. “Not just building them like I used to, but how to do it the right way. I’ve also learned a lot more about logic procedures from labs in my electrical engineering classes.”

In addition to his coursework, Trevor works part time as the physics lab manager, helping fellow students engage in hands-on experiments and supporting faculty with class preparation. In his free time, he enjoys personal interests like rock climbing, experimenting with combat robotics, and volunteering at Lucky Dog Animal Rescue.

Trevor strives to bring curiosity and drive to everything he does, whether it’s pursuing personal goals or giving back to his community. In the future, he hopes to work for an engineering firm where creativity and hands-on problem-solving are encouraged–which is why he feels that laying the groundwork at Capitol Tech for a rewarding education has been so important.
