Capitol Tech Gears Up for Cyber Awareness Month 2023



 

Capitol Tech is preparing to once again celebrate Cybersecurity Awareness Month this October, an annual observation that raises awareness for cybersecurity and online protection through focused activities and messaging encouraging all Americans to take their internet safety into their own hands. This year, the initiative's 20th anniversary, Capitol will host a variety of events throughout the month highlighting the importance of cyber safety.

October 2-25, 2023 - #SecureOurWorld poster contest: Students are invited to create a poster or social media ad that fits CISA's theme of "Secure Our World." All Capitol Tech students are welcome to participate. 

CONTEST GUIDELINES:

  • All entries must adhere to the "Secure Our World" theme
  • Designs should highlight at least one of the following cybersecurity behaviors: Use a strong password/password manager, turn on multifactor authentication, recognize and report phishing, update software
  • Entries can be physical or digital. For digital entries, JPGs, PDFs, or PNGs are preferred
  • For social media entries, a square aspect ratio (1:1) is recommended 
  • Participants can submit a maximum of 2 entries in each category (4 entries total)
  • Submission must include student's name, email address, and category (poster or social media ad) 
  • Files should be named in the following format: "FullName_Category_EntryNumber" (e.g., JohnDoe_Poster_1.jpg)

PRIZES: 

First Prize (Poster Design): $100 gift certificate

First Prize (Social Media Ad Design): $100 gift certificate

Winning designs may be featured in our cybersecurity awareness materials and campaigns.

Email your design to kacharles@captechu.edu with the subject line: "Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2023 Contest Submission."

Winners will be announced by email by October 30th.

October 19, 2023 - Dr. William Butler, Capitol's Vice President for Academic Affairs and 2021 winner of SC Media's "Outstanding Educator" award will present a free Cap Tech Talk webinar on the changing landscape of cybersecurity education in America, and how educators can respond to it. October 25-26, 2023 - Capitol President Brad Sims & CWC Executive Director Diane Janosek will present at the International Cybersecurity Forum North America (ICF), one of the world's largest gatherings of cybersecurity and digital trust professionals. Dr. Sims and Diane Janosek will be in the company of the most respected names in cyber as they give talks about the future of digital protection. October 28, 2023 - Cyber Saturday is returning to Capitol! Join us on campus for a free day of hands-on cyber activities and demonstrations aimed towards middle & high school students. Attendees will enjoy activities such as lock picking and cyber capture-the-flag, plus hear lectures from Capitol cyber experts as they introduce the younger generation to the exciting possibilities of an education or career in cybersecurity.
