Capitol Technology University announces the appointment of President Bradford Sims to the Anne Arundel County Tipton Airport Authority. The Tipton Airport Authority plays a vital role in overseeing the acquisition, construction, improvement, maintenance, and operation of Fort Meade Executive Airport (formerly Tipton Airport) in Odenton, Maryland. The airport supports various aviation operations, local and military needs, and is committed to safety and efficiency.
Through its work, the Authority helps ensure that the airport continues to serve as an important asset for the community and the region.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Sims to the Tipton Airport Authority,” said Steuart Pittman, County Executive. “On behalf of the citizens of Anne Arundel County, we thank him for making this personal and professional commitment to serve the best interests of our citizens and helping to make Anne Arundel County ‘The Best Place—For All.”
The Tipton Airport Authority’s dedicated members provide leadership and expertise to help shape the airport’s strategic direction and long-term success. Dr. Sims will serve a term ending December 31, 2029.
In 2022, Dr. Sims led the launch of Capitol Technology University’s Bachelor of Science in Aviation Professional Pilot degree, creating a forward-looking program that addresses the national pilot shortage while providing students with hands-on, industry-focused training. Under his leadership, Capitol Tech has continued to expand its aviation offerings through partnerships with flight training providers, youth engagement opportunities for aspiring pilots, and the integration of advanced flight simulators. These enhancements ensure students receive comprehensive education in flight operations, safety, and emerging technologies while benefiting from accelerated career pathways that meet FAA certification standards.
"Serving on the Tipton Airport Authority is a natural extension of my commitment to aviation education and workforce development,” said Dr. Sims. “Fort Meade Executive Airport is a critical resource for our region, and I look forward to contributing to its continued growth and strengthening the connections between the airport, community, and next generation of aviation professionals."
