Aviation Professional Pilot Undergraduate Student
Class of 2027

From a young age, aviation has been more than an interest for Capitol Technology University student Sam Rai Kirant, it has been the dream guiding his future.

“Aviation has been my passion since I was a kid,” Sam said. “To become a pilot has been really my only goal professionally.”

Now, through Capitol Tech’s Bachelor of Science in Aviation Professional Pilot program, he is turning that lifelong dream into a career.

Sam chose Capitol Technology University because it allowed him to pursue aviation while staying close to home and near his family. For him, the opportunity to remain in-state while receiving hands-on flight training made Capitol the right fit.

After a pilot let a five-year-old Sam into the cockpit before an international trip, he fell in love with flight.

“Having a passion for aviation and getting to experience that at a young age just fueled my desire even more,” he said.

Since starting the Professional Pilot program, Sam has already achieved a major milestone by earning his private pilot license. He is currently working toward his instrument rating, continuing the path toward his long-term goal of flying internationally for major airlines such as Qatar Airways or Emirates.

Sam has long envisioned himself flying wide-body aircraft like the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777, and more recently, the Airbus A350.

Beyond flight training, Sam says the program has shaped him personally as much as professionally. He credits the experience with teaching him the importance of time, relationships, opportunity, and perseverance.

“The program has taught me life lessons that will stick with me forever—understanding the value of time, people, memories, and money, and never taking them for granted,” he said.

Another aspect of the program that has made a lasting impact has been the connections he has built throughout the aviation industry. Through training and networking, Sam has met pilots and professionals from a variety of backgrounds, each offering experiences and lessons that continue to influence both his career and personal growth.

As he continues progressing toward his aviation goals, Sam remains focused on constant learning and self-improvement. His advice to aspiring pilots reflects the mindset he carries into every stage of his journey:

“Always be humble, appreciative, helping, kind, and most of all, be yourself,” Sam said. “And always remember: a good pilot is always learning.”
