On July 13, U.S. Senator Angela Alsobrooks visited Capitol Technology University as a keynote speaker during the Maryland Blockchain Association’s international BlockchAIn Bootcamp & Workforce Expo. After her opening remarks, Sen. Alsobrooks was joined on-stage by Maryland Blockchain Chapter President Jacqui Cooper and Stand with Crypto Executive Director Mason Lynaugh. They discussed topics surrounding blockchain and emerging technologies, legislation, and workforce development.
“We’re not talking about a technology that may happen, it’s literally here right now...It’s affecting how we receive healthcare information; it's affecting how our children learn; it’s affecting how businesses operate,” said Alsobrooks. “We have an obligation to jump in and to make sure that we are shaping not only how this affects and impacts workers and businesses and others, but to train and to teach our children how to make sure that they are able to navigate it and to use it in a way that is both useful and responsible.”
Lynaugh shared his community’s passion for technology and exploring new financial systems, as well as their opinions on the CLARITY Act, a landmark legislation supported by Senator Alsobrooks that governs the broader digital asset market, including classification, trading, and regulatory oversight.
Maryland State Senator Dr. Ron Watson and Delegate Adrian Boafo—members of Maryland’s Digital Asset and Blockchain Technology Task Force—also spoke during the conference, demonstrating the task force’s dedication to building internal expertise across state and local government.
