Capitol Technology University Announces New Aviation Degree and Partnership with WIFA

In response to the growing needs of the aviation industry for professional pilots, Capitol Technology University is pleased to announce that a new program in Aviation will be available for the Fall 2023 semester. Interested students will soon be able to register for the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Aviation Professional Pilot.

Capitol Tech is partnering with the Washington International Flight Academy (WIFA) to make this degree a reality. President Dr. Bradford Sims (Capitol Tech) and Owner Ziv Levy (WIFA) signed a memorandum of understanding to provide students with the hands-on flight training needed for an experienced, professional pilot. WIFA has over 30 years in the industry as the leading flight school in the Washington, D.C. area and has licensed hundreds of pilots and Boeing 777 Captains. The Aviation Professional Pilot degree curriculum will include sessions held at WIFA facilities and flight park, located in Gaithersburg, MD, and Capitol Tech students will have access to a wide range of instructors, ground and flight equipment, and aircrafts.

Levy expressed excitement in partnering with Capitol Tech to provide Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Flight Certification at his facility stating, “This collaborative effort will help support the growing aviation pilot shortage demands.”

This new degree comes at a time when it is needed most. Pilot shortages have been growing over the last few years and are an all-time high to date. This is mostly attributable to the pandemic, which has affected the supply chain of everything from copper to baby formula. According to CNBC (2022), “The pandemic exacerbated a pilot shortage by slowing down training, hiring and creating a wave of early retirements. The crisis has the industry scrambling for solutions.”

The Aviation Professional Pilot degree will provide a firm foundation in flight operations, airport operations, safety, risk management, FAA rules and regulations, aviation technologies, and piloting skills. Graduates of the program will have the knowledge, skills, and certifications necessary to be employed as a commercial pilot by airlines, governmental agencies, and corporate employers.

As a STEM institution focused on technology education, Capitol Tech degree programs offer a faculty of industry leaders, as well as technical experience for real-world applications and career development, ensuring that graduates are job-ready upon program completion. Partnering with institutions like WIFA guarantee that students will receive the best return on investment while reaching their educational goals.
