Computer Science Education Week

December 6, 2021

This year’s Computer Science Education Week is running from December 6th through the 12th, and schools across America are looking to spread the word.

The holiday promotes all school-age children learning the world of computer coding. According to nationaltoday.com, it “highlights the importance of computer science, [which] teaches problem-solving and analytical skills, and is an essential skill in the modern job market... At the very basic level, we all use laptops, tablets, and smartphones. Adequate information on how to use these devices optimally can make life so much easier and provide career opportunities.”

With so many varied jobs requiring knowledge of computational theory, algorithms between tech and humans, and hardware/software design, it’s no wonder computer science is becoming such a popular field in schooling.

Jobs involving computer science are not only lucrative and popularized, but the industry isn’t just a playing field for tech geeks anymore. Analytical thinking is needed for classic IT problems, but creative thinking is needed to come up with new apps and smart devices. Social skills also go a long way when presenting a new piece of technology or explaining a problem in layman’s terms.

There are loads of careers to pursue within computer science according to thebalancecareers.com, and all are valued in a world increasingly evolving around technology.

Software developers run a good deal of the show, maintaining and repairing the code we rely on for all of our modern-day systems. “Software developers must have the technical creativity required to solve problems uniquely. They need to be fluent in the computer languages that are used to write the code for programs.” The yearly compensation for keeping up with computers stands at an average of $107,510.

Database administrators are also a key component to develop new systems for evolving tastes and an evolving world. Data administrators “analyze and evaluate the data needs of users. They develop and improve the data resources used to store and retrieve critical information.” Such consistent computational analysis is well compensated with an average yearly salary of $93,750.

Computer Hardware Engineers are “responsible for designing, developing, and testing computer components, such as circuit boards, routers, and memory devices.” These are the people who try out the new toys set to be released to the public, coming up with new solutions to problems while applying previous knowledge to bypass old ones easily. And at an income of $117,220 a year, such knowledge is well-funded.

The tech-run world of today requires computer science majors to not only maintain it, but improve it to new levels. This Computer Science Education Week, see what all you can learn about coding and the means to pursue it.
