On Friday, Sept. 21, members of the Capitol College community and dozens of benefactors gathered at Glenn Dale Country Club in Glenn Dale, Md., for the 5th Annual Scholarship Tournament. This year’s tournament featured 61 golfers, who all did their part to help raise funds for student scholarships.
The tournament was won by the foursome of Bob Lentz, Robert Lentz, Michael Lentz and Ross Elberg who won their third consecutive Capitol College Scholarship Golf Tournament with a score of 57. The second place team of Michael Plass, Junious Wilson, Mark Liberatore and Robert Browning scored a 59. Finishing in third with a score of 60 was Ed Coyle, Mike Warholic, Kevin O’Conner and Mike Burch.
The tournament also featured a men’s longest drive contest, which was won by Kevin Marshall and a women’s longest drive contest that was won by Criss Talsania. Billy Davis won the closest to the pin contest with a shot that was just 9’6” from the hole.
After the tournament, all the participants gathered for lunch as Dr. Wood thanked those in attendance for their support. Capitol College scholarship student Jeff Mathew then took the floor and to thank everyone who has helped make his education possible.
“A little bit about myself, so you know where your money is going, I am a senior at Capitol College majoring in computer science,” Mathew said. “In my spare time I do the usual family, friends, recreational activities and such. After graduation I plan on going to work in the software industry initially as a developer to gain experience and then hopefully starting my own business.”
Capitol College is thankful to everyone who participated in the tournament, contributed to the scholarship fund and sponsored the tournament. Many Capitol undergraduates are first-generation college students, and scholarships are extremely important to the Capitol community. With more than 80 percent of students receiving some sort of financial aid, the support of each and every benefactor truly impacts Capitol students.
