On Wednesday, September 28, 2011 the Capitol College faculty gathered at the Fall 2011 Colloquy. This yearly event, hosted by the office of academic affairs, brings together the faculty and staff to celebrate faculty accomplishments, announce academic promotions and share information on recent research and publications.
The event began by Dr. Michael Wood, president, and Dr. Vic Maconachy, vice president for academic affairs, presenting a special service award to Professor John Ryan who recently completed his service to the college community as Faculty Senate President.
Wood announced the academic advancements of Angela Walters from associate professor to professor, and Dr. Michael Gibbs from assistant professor to associate professor. Wood also shared information regarding their respective academic accomplishments such as publications, presentations, teaching and service to the community.
Three faculty members were selected to deliver presentations to their colleagues. The first was Dr. Hong Yu who provided a summary of his paper titled, “A Multiple-Access Protocol for Multimedia Transmission over Wireless ATM Networks.” This paper was published in the 2011 IAJC-ASEE Joint International Conference journal.
The second presentation, delivered via the college’s online learning system, was given by Professor of Practice Vincent Nestler. He provided an overview of the college’s Cyber Battle Lab and his co-authored book “Principles of Computer Security” published by McGraw-Hill (2011).
To close the colloquy, Dr. Helen Barker, dean, presented information on a poster session, co-authored with Gibbs, regarding the college’s effort in education and public outreach that was delivered at the 2011 Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education.
