On April 26, 2019, Dr. Bradford Sims, president of Capitol Technology University, received a 2019 Distinguished Technology Alumni award from the Purdue Polytechnic Institute for extraordinary career, scholarship, and creative achievements. The awards ceremony, which marked the sesquicentennial of Purdue University, was held on Purdue’s campus in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Faculty from the School of Construction Management Technology selected Sims for the award, a choice that was endorsed by dean and distinguished professor of the Purdue Polytechnic Institute, Dr. Gary Bertoline, who is pictured with Dr. Sims in the cover photo.
“I have fond memories of my time at the Purdue Polytechnic Institute and am honored to receive this award,” said Sims. “One of the most important things I learned while surrounded by so many supporters – faculty, mentors, peers, and family – is the value of creating bridges between areas commonly thought of as distinct. From my non-traditional path to the presidency to the new, innovative academic programs we are now introducing at Capitol, I discovered early on that points of intersection add depth and breadth,” he added.
When Sims’ selection for the award was announced, Bertoline offered his congratulations. “Dr. Sims’ impressive contributions to both industry and academia reflect the very best of our School of Construction Management,” he said. “His dedication to the development of future professionals in construction management, aviation, and STEM disciplines is consistent with the positive reputation he has earned from his peers and colleagues.”
Sims is both an undergraduate and graduate alumnus of Purdue, an institution consistently ranked among the best college values nationally by Kiplinger and U.S. News & World Report. He received a B.S. in building construction management in 1990 and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction in 1999.
Sims was joined by his parents at the awards ceremony.
Under Sims’ leadership, Capitol Technology University continues to define what it means to be a leader in high-demand science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields, enabling students to learn, build, and succeed in a practical, hands-on environment. Since 2017, the university has launched a number of new degrees at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels, including business analytics, construction management, critical infrastructure, cyber analytics, and unmanned and autonomous systems.
