The concept for Project TRAPSat is to design, build, and launch a CubeSat capable of capturing and taking pictures of small orbital debris in low earth orbit. Aerogel was selected as the medium for particle selection. If Project TRAPSat is successful, it will autonomously capture debris and micrometeorites. It will image the captured debris and create a data packet; this packet will be sent to earth as telemetry in the form of images with ephemeris data. The images in combination with the data stamps will allow scientists to correlate both the location and frequency of orbital debris impacts.
